RESETTING YOUR CIRCADIAN RHYTHM: TIPS FROM A HOLISTIC HEALTH COACH

As a holistic health coach, I've seen firsthand how important it is to maintain a healthy circadian rhythm for our overall health and wellbeing. When our sleep-wake cycle is disrupted, it can lead to a host of health issues, including fatigue, insomnia, and even depression.

Fortunately, there are several things you can do to reset your circadian rhythm and improve your sleep quality. One of the most important things you can do is to establish a consistent sleep schedule. By going to bed and waking up at the same time every day, you help regulate your body's internal clock and improve the quality of your sleep.

Another key strategy is to get exposure to natural light. Exposure to bright light in the morning (by 9:30am) and again in the afternoon (~3-6pm) can help reset your circadian rhythm and improve your sleep quality. On the other hand, avoiding screens roughly 2 hours before bedtime can help regulate your sleep-wake cycle.

It's also important to avoid caffeine (by 1pm) and alcohol before bedtime, as both of these substances can interfere with your sleep quality and disrupt your circadian rhythm. Instead, try practicing relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing to help calm your mind and body before bedtime.

Regular physical activity can also improve your sleep quality and help reset your circadian rhythm. Just make sure to finish your workout at least a few hours before bedtime.

Lastly, spending time in nature and getting exposure to natural light during the day can also help regulate your circadian rhythm and improve your sleep quality.

Remember, resetting your circadian rhythm is a gradual process that requires consistent effort over time. By incorporating these habits into your daily routine, you can help improve your sleep quality, increase your energy levels, and improve your overall health and wellbeing.
